  This is the third book from the Sketching from the Imagination series published by 3dtotal Publishing. I love all three of them and I hope they keep coming up with more volumes.The book is still satisfyingly thick at 320 pages. 50 artists are featured.The sketches and artworks are really beautiful and inspiring. There's a lot of variety and the artists commentary talks about their love for sketching, inspiration and some tips. Even in black and white, the designs look terrific. Once again, I'm marvelled by the level of details and intricacy of the many sketches.This particular volume focuses on sci-fi. I still see quite a significant portion on character designs, in sci-fi style of course. There are also the occasional mechas, sci-fi environments, alien plants, etc.Most highly recommended to all who loves sketchbooks.Well worth the money!(See more pictures of the book on my blog. After falling in love with the Sketching From The Imagination, I was thrilled to find the new Sci-Fi and Fantasy books and they do not disappoint. The Sci-Fi book is filled with some great art and some truly unique styles. There is a great mix of concepts from alien life forms, to spaceships, robots, mechs, spacesuits, and other wild future imaginings. The art alone is worth it. But when you add in the comments and tips from each artist, it really makes this (and the other books in this series) a great place for inspiration and for picking up new ideas and techniques. Of all my art books, the Sketching from the Imagination books are the ones I pick up most often. I love to just flip thru them at random and almost always find myself pulled in and losing track of time.I recommend these books for anyone whether you are a beginner or an expert or even if you don't draw. These books aren't books that teach you how to draw, they are books that inspire you to create.So if you want to stir your imagination, or peak behind the curtains and get inside the head of some talented artists, or just enjoy some excellent and sometimes quirky Sci-Fi art, then flip through the pages of this wonderful book. I dare you not to feel inspired to grab a pen or pencil and start some sketches of your own.

Not bad, although I expected more. The artist's selection is kind of inconsistent, some of them being quite good, and some of them being just barely acceptable. The overall artist's level is, in my opinion, underwhelming, and some of the comments or tips are absolutely obvious for anyone with a little bit of drawing skill.Now, I am not a professional artist, so I was hoping I could get some insight or inspiration to improve my own drawings. Truth is, I've only opened it once after getting the book, and I regret my purchase. Before I got this, I was hoping to get more books from the publisher, but I don't think I will, after seeing the artists featured on this one.

I got this for my 10 year old budding artist. The sketches are really fantastic and can be studied over and over, still finding something new. Some of the pictures might be a little "scary" for someone under 10-12 depending on their sensitivity to imagery. This book is geared toward teens/adults but I flipped through it and felt it was suitable for my child's maturity level.

Wonderful book for study of the styles used from different artists. Nice to reference from for science fiction art study.

The sketches in this book make for great inspiration for Sci-fi drawings. The tips the artists give are a grade above beginner, which I liked. I like that they sampled various artists to give a wide range of styles.

3d publishing keep it up you guys do great stuff

This book provided helpful tips and gives insight on how to become better at sketching.

Just buy this thing and the other two from the series! The book definitely can help you break out of an artistic slump. Beyond the numerous varied images, styles and techniques showcased, the commentary by each artist gives a really cool "human" voice the work these amazing artists create. The good, the bad and the ugly is covered as is a good dose of motivation from those who have done great work yet struggle sometimes just like everyone else. Great to read through and to reference again and again for inspiration.

About the Author

Catherine L. Ruscitti, PsyD, earned her doctor of psychology degree in clinical psychology from Loyola University Maryland. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Baylor College of Medicine, Menninger Department of Behavioral Sciences on the Adolescent/Adult Track at The Menninger Clinic in Houston, Texas. Ruscitti is currently a post-doctoral fellow on the Compass Unit for Young Adults at The Menninger Clinic where she provides psychotherapy and assessment services to young adult inpatients. She is also continuing her research at The Menninger Clinic examining emotion regulation difficulties in inpatients with eating disorders and participating in an eating disorder research team. She is interested in pursuing a career in adolescent and adult psychotherapy and assessment at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, with particular interest in the treatment of eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and personality disorders.

Jeffrey E. Barnett, PsyD, ABPP, is associate dean for graduate programs and the social sciences, and a professor in the department of psychology, at Loyola University Maryland and a licensed psychologist in independent practice in Baltimore, Maryland. He has given over 200 presentations and workshops for mental health professionals and has over 200 publications in print and online. Jeffrey Barnett has published nine books thus far, one of which is in its second edition and one of which is in its seventh edition. He is widely published in ethics and professional practice issues for mental health professionals with many of his books being written broadly for all mental health professionals, not just psychologists. Additionally, he has received numerous professional awards on the national level and has presented regularly for decades at conferences for mental health professionals.

Rebecca A. Wagner, PhD, is the director of eating disorder services and codeveloper of the Eating Disorder Track at The Menninger Clinic. Wagner’s professional interests include the efficacy of an innovative approach to the treatment of eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, emotion dysregulation, self-harm, and suicide within the eating disorder population. About the Author
Barry Wittman is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Elizabethtown College. His areas of active research are computer science pedagogy, particularly for parallel computing, and approximation algorithms for graph problems. Aditya Mathur is a Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University. He has taught courses in computer science at all levels since 1972. He has written several books, the most well-known being an introduction to microprocessors, the first book of its kind published in India. Aditya has published extensively in international journals and conferences in the area of software engineering.
